Day 8

So I don't know if it was per exhaustion or my hormones but last night I almost lost it. The rooms in the NICU have 2 babies in them. Josh's roommate never has anyone visiting her... sad I know! Yet she still gets the window seat. With trying to breastfeed and pumping it was getting pretty awkward having people constantly walking past us. So I finally spoke up and Josh has a window seat. It may not seem like a big deal but we have tons of room in our new room and we can actually see the light of day! Thank god!

Good stuff to report from overnight. Josh's bilirubin is all the was down to 6.3, he shouldn't have to sunbathe anymore!

Also the nurse overnight offered him the bottle at midnight and he took 25cc. Awww we are making progress! While I am there during the day I am going to breastfeed and we are having a hard time getting the nurses to offer him the bottle in the middle of the night. Eventually this is what he has to do to prove himself to get home. He does have that tube and its just easier for them to put the breast milk down the tube rather than offer him the bottle. Again I am getting feisty not sure if its because I am tired or the hormones! We are just going to keep on the nursing staff and keep asking "did you offer him the bottle?"

Josh also gained some weight last night... He is all the way up to 5 pounds 5 ounces! Great news! OK that's all for now...

Just a quick update....

Josh took his entire bottle at 8am.... 52cc! Great news... he also latched on to me longer that he has ever... 14 minutes! So by the time 8pm feed came is was completely exhausted... he only took 25cc. The nurses all said this is still very encouraging and we just have to wait and see how he does.

He was not under the lights today! He also maintained his wieght at 5 pounds 5 ounces... All steps in the right direction.... He is still running the show...

  3. Hi Kelly and Joe -
I have been reading daily since day 1 when Tina forwarded me the site...don't laugh...but just this minute figured out how to respond.
He's sooo cute - I really like the one where you're feeding him and his eyes are open. Please give Josh a hug and kiss from me. Looking forward to more good news. Hope to see you all home soon.
    Love, Marie
