We had a very busy day today which is why I am so late in updating this blog. First off Josh pulled his NG tube out (the tube that is going up his nose into his belly) Friday night. Apparently he decided he didn't need it any more! No more tubes...

He has been drinking like a champ ever sense! At around 11:00am Saturday he left BI to move to Emerson in Concord. His favorite nurse Eileen and 2 ambulance drivers brought him to Emerson on a little stretcher (big ambulance though!) He did great on the ride down - slept the entire time and probably doesn't even know he moved.
At Emerson, Josh is the only baby in the special care nursery! (they claim it's their slow time) Josh is getting all the attention he needs! We spoke with his new attending - the pediatrician who is looking after him while he is here. She changed a couple of things that we had been thinking about for a while. First she is letting Josh eat every 3 hours and now he only needs to finish 43cc every 3 hours instead of the 63cc that BI was making him do every 4 hours. The next thing is they increased the calories in his breast milk. This is done by adding a scoop of powdered formula to my breast milk making it 22 calories an ounce instead of 20 calories an ounce. Every other feed he will get my breast milk straight up. The other feeds he will get the higher calorie milk from a bottle. This is great because I can still breast feed and he is getting more calories to help him gain weight. We are currently 15 grams away from his birth weight.
The most exciting part of the day is Joe and I have a post partum room and Josh is allowed to be in the room with us! No monitors! We were both so excited to get him in the room with us we just kept looking at each other and were like "now what do we do!?" He spent a lot of the day in the room with us, at night he goes in the nursery to be monitored but I still can feed him every 3 hours - the nurse brings him down to us.
He had his hearing test last night... He passed just fine. He also passed his car seat test. They have him sit in the car seat for 90 minutes while hooked up to the monitor to make sure he doesn't drop his heart rate, or oxygen.
Josh had a couple of visitors today. Papa Joe (Joe's dad) finally got to hold Josh after much anticipation (every time he came to visit him at BI Josh was sleeping in his crib!) He was very excited. Grammy Carol, Jenna and Mandy (Joe's cousin) also visited. Mandy also got to hold Josh for a while but we don't have a picture on our camera that we can post for all to see. If Josh can keep up his feeding it looks like we will be home soon! Possibly early next week! Everyone keep your fingers crossed! :-)
