Day 12

Today was Grammy Carol's (Joe's mom) and Aunt Jenna's (Joe's sister) day. Josh had such a great day yesterday that he completely wore himself out. Today he only ate about 30cc (1 ounce) of every feed, and only nursed for maybe 10 minutes tops. The nurses told us they have seen this before. Preemies can have a really great day and the next be completely pooped out. This is why they have to prove themselves for 48 consecutive hours. They also are concerned with the fact that Josh hasn't gained a lot of weight. Again, can be normal in preemies however if he doesn't gain weight soon they are going to have to increase his calories. This is done by adding powdered formula to my breast milk to beef him up a little. They can't go up on how much Josh eats every 4 hours because he will just spit up.


Josh did have some more visitors today. Auntie Linda (Joe's aunt) and "the godfather" Chris (Joe's cousin, but not really Josh's Godfather). Interestingly enough, it seems that another male visitor (Chris) may have caused Josh to have an extraordinary bodily function. After Chris left Josh had one of his biggest spits ups on record. This spit up was found on the side wall of Josh's crib. The nurses had to bring him a new crib since the one he puked all over was beyond repair. I swear... I can't make this stuff up.

So to sum it up... Josh completely fooled us. Yesterday he was drinking his milk like a champ. But this morning it was decided that he could not yet lose his feed tube since over night he showed signs of tiring out while feeding. Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day. He is clearly running the show. I don't know when Joe and I are finally going to realize it.
